It is no secret that Elon Musk wants to bring new features to Tesla. In fact, the CEO has promised earlier this weeks that it would unleash a brand new mobile app update. Now, in a report from Electrek, the said update has finally arrived.
By essence, the aforementioned update lets Tesla owners remotely activate their vehicles’ steering wheel and heated seat. At the same time, it gives them the ability to schedule a service appointment in case they need to in one way or another. It is safe to say that the update bring some quality of life improvements.
Tesla launched a new version of its vehicle software called 2018.48.12. Through this update, the titular automaker is able to bring forward a slew of mobile app features.
When Tesla owners precondition their vehicles through the aforementioned app, they can now easily turn on and off — or even adjust — their seat heaters. As long as the update is made available in their vehicles, they should also have the ability to turn on their steering wheel heater. The statement released by the company notes that in order for the update to work, car owners must have the version 3.8.0 or greater installed.
The issue was the above-mentioned version was not made available. Fortunately, Tesla has decided to push the update to the app stores, making it available for download. As such, car owners can effectively activate their heated seats in just a handful of taps in the Tesla mobile app.
For owners with a heated steering wheel, they can also click on the same button — particularly in the rendering section — in order to activate the heating process.
Interestingly, Musk said that the company would soon unleash a new service scheduling feature. This is expected to arrive on the mobile app sometime next week, though no exact date has been provided by the car company.
As for Tesla owners looking to obtain more information about the “Elon Time,” it has yet to be implemented on the update. Still, the company confirmed that it would eventually be made available. The decision to postpone is due to the fact that the new feature was only made available on the new mobile app update.
The feature, as the name suggests, enables Tesla owners to schedule a service appointment. It gives them the ability to view which service centers are available. For instance, through the app, they will know whether or not the Quebec service center is available and until which date it is. It also gives them concrete knowledge about when a certain service center is available only.
Considering the number of vehicles the company has released this year, it is safe to say that it is going to handle a hefty quantity of service requests in the weeks to come. It is really interesting to see just how much convenience the new feature brings, especially since it would give owners the opportunity to schedule a service in just a tap of the button.
Sometime last month, Musk revealed that Tesla owners would soon be able to call a “Tesla Ranger” by simply using the app. It is basically a mobile service designed to handle “top” known problems, mostly are those that do not necessarily require a lift.
Apparently, though, the new feature in the Tesla mobile app is only able to support service center appointments. In other words, it is yet to be made available for mobile service, which is exactly what Musk promised before.
Musk claims that their mobile technicians have the skills and expertise to resolve more than 80 percent of issues relating to Tesla vehicles. And the good thing about it is that car owners do not necessarily have to bring their cars to the service centers. For instance, owners requesting some swap seats can be done in the comfort of their properties just by calling help. The mobile service would provide this immediately upon request.
It should be noted that Tesla only meant to allow the mobile service to cover at least 30 percent of service jobs. And, based on the words of Musk, this percentage is only available in North America.
As of this writing, the company has been trying to modify their Model S cars in order to use them as mobile repair cars. And by doing so, the company hopes to expand this service fleet for better customer service.
